Gun Shy Becomes the First Hollywood Movie Backed by Equity Crowdfunding

Gun Shy, the first Hollywood movie that raised £1.8 million via equity crowdfunding, goes global with the launch on streaming websites including Amazon, Sky, and iTunes.

Gun Shy is an action-comedy movie starring the famous Antonio Banderas and one of the most beautiful Bond girls Olga Kurylenko. The movie is produced and directed by Simon West, whose work includes The Expendables 2, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and The Mechanic.

Back in September, the movie was released in the USA and is now growing its popularity on the global cinema landscape.

The equity crowdfunding campaign was launched back in 2014 on SyndicateRoom and raised £1.8 million by almost 170 investors from the UK.

“I didn’t really know about crowdfunding,” West told TheWrap. “I’d heard of Kickstarter and I thought in the past there were just donations from fateful followers and they got a T-shirt or pen.”

But after learning about equity crowdfunding and the different rules that apply in the UK, everything changed and now Gun Shy is the first equity-crowdfunding based Hollywood movie.
