A hospital in the southeastern part of Tennessee, one of the eastern states of the United States, entered such a bad financial outburst that it had to suspend its western treatment services earlier this month.
Dan Johnson, the new CEO of the Copper Basin Medical Center, decided to rely on crowdfunding to save the hospital.
The crowdfunding campaign with a slogan “we cannot save the hospital without your support” is launched on GoFundMe and has a target of $100,000, however, this amount will cover just a small portion of the hospital’s debt.
Copper Basin Medical Center was founded and grew in the early 1950s with the contributions of miners working for the Tennessee Copper Company. CEO Johnson hopes the local people will not allow the hospital to close.
The hospital is the only hospital in the town of Polk County and not the only health facility that has had a hard time. Three out of three isolated hospitals in the US are hurting and 75 have been closed since 2010.
The crowdfunding campaign launched for the Copper Basin Medical Center collected $ 5,449 from 71 supporters in 20 days.
